Lev 26:3-5 3. If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them; 4. THEN I will give you RAIN in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit. 5. And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time; and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.(emphasis mine) It took me a couple of minutes to get hold of the best words in explaining to you what the word “THEN” means. But as students (learned people), I believe we would’nt be needing much words in describing this grammatical lexicon. From the Advanced Learner’s Oxford Dictionary, “then” can be used to introduce the next item in a series of actions, events, instructions etc. “then” can also be used to show the logical result of a particular statement or situation. It can also be used to show the end of a conversation or something. Considering all of these different senses of the word “then” we can now come to the conclusion that the word “then” is most times used when one wants to establish a final point. Why do we need the explantion or definition of “then”? I will tell you.. Most times, christians confesses scripture; some are of prosperity, health etc. Then after sometime they begin to wonder why they aren’t seeing their lives being shapend to those scriptures they always confess. This now brings us to the place of “THEN” From the opening scripture we read, we could see that God was telling the children of israel; if ye walk in my statutes and keep my commandments and do them;….. Now they were first of all instructed to do something. You must plant before you harvest. If you look very closely at the scripture again you will notice there is a semi-colon at the end of verse 3. What does a semi – colon introduces? It is used to separate the parts of a complicated sentence or items in a detailed list. What are we saying, it means God was’nt done with what he was saying. The semi colon at he end of verses 3 shows that there is more to keeping God’s commandments. This is where “then” comes in. If we keep God’s commandments and statues only THEN will i give you RAIN in due season and the land shall yield her increase and the TREES OF THE FIELD SHALL YIELD THEIR FRUITS (VERSE 4, emphasis mine). Wow! It is that simple, all the promises which God made to us in the scriptures can be made manifest in our lives only if we keep his ways? Yes that simple! Praying and fasting and asking of God’s promises won’t yield much or little when you have not examined your life to see if you have really done what God’s requires of you before seeking of the “then” aspec . Scriptures says in 2 Chron 7:14 “if my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; THEN will I Hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and heal their lang”. Did you see the “semi- colon” and “then” in the scripture? I can hear God speak to me clearly; if we want the promises of “then” in our lives(academics, spiritual life, finances) then “we need to follow whats before the “semi-colon. For RAIN and HEALING upon our land (every thing that concerns us) then, we must acknowledge the power that moves “then”, keeping God’s statues and commandments is the power of “THEN”.
