If you search for the clause You’ll Never Walk Alone on Google, you would get two major broad results - songs written by some musicians that ‘rocked’ in the 60s, and a football club, Liverpool FC (LFC).

I found out that this was the song that LFC fans sang at half-time in Istanbul that night in 2005. It was a song-turned-anthem, sung before every home game in Liverpool. Being three-nil down at half-time, many fans would have thought the worst, perhaps fearing their beloved team would concede more in the second half. But they sang. The travelling supporters sang, and it actually led to a sense of hope. Talking about that night at the Ataturk Stadium, Liverpool fan and writer Paul Tomkins said that: “Sometimes songs start up when you're getting beat and then die down really quickly, as no one feels like singing anything, but on that evening it just got louder and louder. If you can't sing it and mean it in adversity, when can you sing it? I don't think anything else could have got the fans believing again, and it transmitted itself to the players. Indeed, the anthem's rendition at half-time of the 2005 Champions League final goes down in Liverpool folklore, given its role in reviving a seemingly beaten team”.

Whenever we go through challenges, are we able to sing songs of praise? Are we able to sing songs that speak God’s words? It is songs of praise, and indeed, a lifestyle of praise that enable us to see God’s Hand in our situation. Nothing could stop Paul and Silas from loving God; they were in the prison and yet praised God. Do we let our heads drop when we don’t understand what’s going on around us? Do we begin to doubt when we don’t understand what He is doing? Do we give in to negative habits when we become greatly discouraged, distressed, or stressed out? Have faith in God. Believe He’ll never leave you nor forsake you. Surround yourself with songs of praise; fill your heart with His words; let your Hope remain in the One to whom all praise is due.
