Worm Jacob

Do you know who the worm is? Do you know what the worm is? The characteristics of the worm?

That  small long, soft, boneless, backless, animal …….. The worm!

What is the purpose and characteristics of the backbone?

Fundamental support, structure or infrastructure, courage, fortitude or strength.

Why was jacob refered to as worm Jacob in isaiah 41?

Going down memory lane, Jacob the supplanter,Jacob the cheat, Jacob the deciever, Jacob the fraudstar had acquired almost all he had through dubious means! It was time to go back home and face his brother who he had cheated! Something happened. God orchestrated him to divide his family so that he could have time alone with this prince who didn’t know the God of his fathers even though he had worshipped him at different times of his life.

He wrestled with an angel and prevailed! But the angel touched his hip joint. He was thrown off balance. He couldn’t  walk straight anymore, he didn’t have the fundamental support anymore.

The backbone represents our backup plan, our plan b, our collateral, our rich uncle and aunty who can pull the stringes for us, something we can always fall back to.

Jacob was stripped of that. His support system was taken away. His name was changed from Jacob to Israel.

Worm Jacob couldn’t do without God. Worm Jacob didn’t have backup plan, worm Jacob couldn’t present plan b, worm Jacob had just plan A, and if plan a failed he just still had to use plan A.

God was plan A and is plan A!

Are you broken? Do you still have your support system? Do you still have your backup plans?

Now because worm Jacob had no more alternatives, because worm Jacob had nobody to help him, because worm Jacob could trust and depend on no other person and source, God said in isaiah 41:14

Fear not, thou worm Jacob……I will help thee!

The bible says God is our very present help in the time of need! He has never failed before and the good news is that he isn’t about to start now, definitely not now! An ibo adage says: anaghi amu aka ipe n’aka( you don’t learn to be lefthanded in old age).

A song writer says HE never fails, and he won’t start now…….
