The Power of Love Letters in Relationships and Marriage

  • I am about to reproduce here a love poem I wrote to my fiance in 1996!
    Love letters! They are powerful.

They practically preserved our courtship back then in the nineties.
In those days, there were no distractions caused by Whatsapp messages, nothing like Facebook and of course no mobile phones!
So, I was left with only one choice, love letters!
Today, love letters have been replaced with forwarding all kinds of jokes which only elicits some smiles and laughter but does nothing to the heart.
    Words are powerful.
There is something called spiritual love letters!
It will do wonders in your relationship or marriage.
Really, love letters should not end or stop on wedding day, because its goal is not to get her but to preserve her!
Okay, and it should be mutual as well. Not just one sided.

And those love letters are still preserving our spirituality and daily causing His love to be shed abroad in our hearts.
    Words are powerful.
The scriptures says that Jesus is coming back for a spotless church. How is he ever going to achieve that considering the state of the church?
Then scriptures gives us an answer.
    Ephesians 5:27 (KJV)
That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
So, the way Jesus will clean up His bride, the church is through the power of Words!
What are you writing to your loved one?
What are you saying to your loved one?
What are you calling your children? Do you call them coconut head? Knowing that it is only water you find in coconut!
    Words are powerful!

Stop using vulgar languages on each other.
Remove the “F” word from your vocabulary!
    Bless each other!
    Proverbs 5:18 (MSG)
Bless your fresh-flowing fountain! Enjoy the wife you married as a young man!
It is a decision, you have to make to enjoy your courtship or marriage. Don’t let it be riddled with quarrels and bitterness.
    Use words.
Compose love letters and mail it from time to time!
Below is a love poem I wrote to my fiancee back then in 1996 on the campus of Olabisi Onabanjo University. It may give you some ideas. I stumbled on it few days back. I am going to reproduce it verbatim, nothing edited. Enjoy.
    The enigmatic Sophia
    What an individual
    What an incredible god
    What a sweet wife
    Your exquisite elegance
    Your incredible knowledge
    Baffles me
    I speak the truth
    Your unique brilliance
    Your possession of acute wits
Are all that make my head swell
    Not that alone
    Your fluidity of speech
    Your mastery of the word
Gives me a lift in my spirit
    Your innocent eyeballs
    Your sincere countenance
    Your easy disposition
    Are all too endearing
    Your kind heartedness
    Your constructive reasoning
    Your level of tolerance
Are what Dunamis needs in the Sophia
    Your sporadic courage
    When nudged
    Your large heart
    Excites me a lot
    Your wonderful ideas
    Complements mine
    Your enviable ideals
    Complete mine
    Your attitude to life
    Your comments on issues
Your words spoken in due season
Will make a mother in Israel
    And I am excited
    And I am happy
And I look into the future
    And see things
    Our wonderful children
    Are pillars
    Our sweet daughters
    Are Zion sisters
    Our home
    A wonder, a wealth
    Our family
    A model
    Our children
    A rare collection
    Our ministry
    A rare reach out
    Our Christian lives
    Spirit led, in abundance
    It is our time,
    We are here!
