Catering Practicals, My First Pot of Stew

  • Caterers prepare all kind of sumptuous stuff.
Being a caterer is a lot of work, but they seem to enjoy it.
It is their work. It is their passion.
    Your passion excites you.
You will also notice that what a caterer prepares or bakes is what comes forth.
No caterer bakes a cake and then has Ice cream at the end.
What you cater for is what comes forth. Click To Tweet
In a way, we are all caterers.
But what we cater for differs.
However, you will only have what you cater for.
In a way, your harvest is defined.
The definition of your harvest is your seed.
The limitation of your harvest is your seed.
The quality and quantity ion your seed will go a long way to influence the output of your harvest.
I want to ask you this morning, what are you catering for?
    What are you preparing?
The reality is that you will eat what you cook.

I remember the first pot of stew I cooked when I was all by myself in the University.
There were more Potatoes than Pepper!
So, it came out with this bitter taste.
I eat it like that. It was what I catered for.
Next time I cooked, I had learnt my lesson.
You see, I had four sisters, so I hardly go to the kitchen. But then, they never followed me to the University.
There will be seasons in your life where there will be nobody to cater or cook for you. Click To Tweet
You will have to open that Bible yourself, take the meat of the word and prepare it.
I want you to look into your relationship, marriage and life this morning.
    What are you catering for?
Take a look at the scriptures.
    Romans 8:8 (AMP)
So then those who are living the life of the flesh [ CATERING to the appetites and impulses of their carnal nature ] CANNOT please or satisfy God, or be acceptable to Him.
Living the life of the flesh is catering to the appetites and impulses of the carnal nature.
And doing this will not please God.
If there is anything I want to do, I want to please God.
    That is my goal.
That is all I am living for, to please God!
You don’t owe your carnal nature anything if you are in God.
That is why the scriptures says
    Romans 8:12 (KJV)
Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
    The Message Translation says
    Romans 8:12 (MSG)
So don't you see that we don't owe this old do-it-yourself life one red cent.
If you don't owe it, then you should stop catering for it!
You don't owe your flesh that night party.
You don't owe your flesh that Friday clubbing.
The reason why the scriptures advises that we should stop catering for the carnal nature is further explained in verse 13.
    Romans 8:13 (AMP)
For if you live according to [ the dictates of ] the flesh, you will SURELY die. But if through the power of the [ Holy ] Spirit you are [ habitually ] putting to death (making extinct, deadening) the [ evil ] deeds prompted by the body, you shall [ really and genuinely ] live forever.
Living to dictates of the body brings death.
Let me break it down and give you an example.
Bro Zeru and Sister Sube are in courtship. But they are always indulging in sexual compromise. They are listening to what their bodies are dictating to them. They could not say no!
The next thing is that death will come. It could be gradual death, slow death, postponed death, or even physical death but death will come. It could be death of the courtship, death of favour, death of blessing, death of open doors or death of opportunities.
    But certainly, death will come.
    Why will death come?
    Because the scriptures says so!
So, how do you fight this death?
    You fight death with death!
The scripture advises that through the power of the Holy Spirit, you have to habitually put to death (make extinct, deaden) the [ evil ] deeds prompted by the body.
This is what you have to do daily.
The body craves for jeru trip outside marriage.
You kill the craving by saying NO and through the power of the Holy Spirit.
The body craves cheating others. You kill that craving.
You fight the death that the devil wants to bring into your life by the death of those cravings.
In fact, The Message translation says that
Romans 8:13 (MSG)  …The best thing to do is give it a decent burial and get on with your new life.
Once the cravings are put to death and buried, you become free!
A dead man cannot commit sexual sins.
A dead man will not lie.
A dead man would not commit adultery.
This is what it means to mortify the deeds of the flesh. you take those deeds to the mortuary! Click To Tweet
This is what it means to die to the flesh and be alive in Christ.
When you do this, there will be nothing to cater for in the flesh.
The appetites and impulses of the carnal nature would all die.
    Then you can please God.
When you please God, you don't need to pray for anything again. Doors would open of their own accord. Grace will speak for you. Click To Tweet
You will be led by the Spirit of God. You will know what life really is.
Do you know that if you are led by the Spirit of God, you won’t have to go sample and test relationships whether they will work or not?
You will not get involved with a strange woman!
Evil men and wicked men who speak frowardly would be kept at bay.
This is life, people of God.
Let me end this by saying, you can start all over in God. You can decide today and by the help of the Holy Spirit say no to every compromise.
This is what life is! You can cater for the things of the Spirit!
I pray that God will grant you more understanding in Jesus name!

I will not cater for the flesh

Lord, help me to mortify the deeds of the flesh

    Romans 8:11 (MSG)
It stands to reason, doesn't it, that if the alive-and-present God who raised Jesus from the dead moves into your life, he'll do the same thing in you that he did in Jesus, bringing you alive to himself? When God lives and breathes in you (and he does, as surely as he did in Jesus), you are delivered from that dead life. With his Spirit living in you, your body will be as alive as Christ's!
