The Anatomy Of A Foolish Man

  • Everybody reading this including myself would have done some foolish things in time past, so nobody is really exempt and this is not to condemn or indict anybody.

Everybody has his share of mistakes, but the wisdom in past foolishness is learning from them and adjusting accordingly. So the pertinent question this morning is, “Am I doing something foolish presently unknowingly? Have I been entangled in the web of foolishness without knowing?”

It is important to take an inventory of yourself, because the foolishness of the foolish does not allow him to identify his foolishness, he sometimes think, the wise are the foolish ones!

Sometimes, you need the help of another to be able to see your foolishness because foolishness blinds. Click To Tweet

In Matt. 23:17, 19, Luk.11:40 and Luk. 24:25, Jesus actually referred to some people as fools.

So, who is a foolish man? Who will God call a foolish man or woman? Let’s learn a few things from Solomon, a once wisest man on the planet. We cannot exhaust all but here a few.

    1. A foolish man despises wisdom and instruction

    Pro 1:7 AMP
The reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord is the beginning and the principal and choice part of knowledge [its starting point and its essence]; but fools despise skillful and godly Wisdom, instruction, and discipline.

A wise man knows that the starting point of life is to be a God worshipper and a lover of God. He is apt to want to learn the things of God. A foolish man on the other hand will not appreciate or value wisdom.

    2. A foolish person makes fun of God and dislikes knowledge

    Pro 1:22 NIrV
"How long will you childish people love your childish ways? How long will you rude people enjoy making fun of God and others? How long will you foolish people hate knowledge?

A foolish man laughs at the things and ways of God. He practically hates knowledge. He never reads any books. He or she prefers to spend time jesting, watching films lazily, and such things rather than seeking to improve himself.

    3. A foolish person sees and recognizes evil or something bad and yet refuses to back out

He deliberately steps into evil. He calls it necessary evil!

    Pro 13:19 GNB
How good it is to get what you want! Stupid people refuse to turn away from evil.

    4. An influential person can be a fool and when you associate with such persons, you can hurt your destiny

    Pro 13:20 MSG
Become wise by walking with the wise; hang out with fools and watch your life fall to pieces.

    5. A foolish person consults nobody. He or she believes he is all-wise!

He feels he has what it takes to run a relationship or marriage and doesn’t need the help of any body, not even mentors.

    Pro 14:8 GNB
Why is a clever person wise? Because he knows what to do. Why is a stupid person foolish? Because he only thinks he knows.

    6. When a fool does something sinful, he refuses to accept, makes a joke out of it and tries to move on

Imagine a person who deceives a girl into planning for wedding and then backs out a few day to wedding after the lady has bought the wedding gown and invited persons, and then he just trivializes it and makes jokes out of it all!

    Pro 14:9 NIV
Fools mock at making amends for sin, but goodwill is found among the upright.

    7. Fools talk a lot of gibberish, they mouth a lot of incoherence and they are proud of it

When a fool opens his mouth to talk, he only pours out foolishness. This does not make him to shut up, he talks the more and his foolishness is made visible. It would have been good if he can keep quiet a little and learn from the wisdom of others, but he does not.

    Pro 15:2 MSG
Knowledge flows like spring water from the wise; fools are leaky faucets, dripping nonsense.

    8. A fool prefers to learn by experience and not by wisdom

For example, we communicate wisdom daily on KHC on relationships and marriage by the Spirit of God. A fool sees it and ignores it most times.

    Pro 16:22 MSG
True intelligence is a spring of fresh water, while fools sweat it out the hard way.

    9. Foolish people make financial vows, promises and pledges and they refuse to honour it

The foolishness in this is that giving is the way out of lack, poverty and insufficiency. So when there is an opportunity to give, it is an opportunity to break the back of lack. So you have a prompting from the Spirit of God to give and you make a vow either in your heart or verbally.

Then you simply refuse to make that sacrifice. It is a foolish thing to do because it is like you are depriving yourself of God’s fullness.

    Ecc 5:4 MSG
When you tell God you'll do something, do it--now. God takes no pleasure in foolish gabble. Vow it, then do it.

    10. Fools have anger problems and refuse to work on it

They get to ruin a lot of things because of uncontrollable anger!

    Ecc 7:9 MSG
Don't be quick to fly off the handle. Anger boomerangs. You can spot a fool by the lumps on his head.

    11. People that pretend and tried to show they love a person when they really hate that person are fools

People that slander others are also fools.

    Pro 10:18 AMP
He who hides hatred is of lying lips, and he who utters slander is a [self-confident] fool.

    12. Fools make their parents unhappy

Fools are a sore point to their parents. Rather than bring joy, their thoughts engender sadness.

    Pro 17:21 AMP
He who becomes the parent of a [self-confident] fool does it to his sorrow, and the father of [an empty-headed] fool has no joy [in him].

    13. A fool has no secret.

His life is in the public domain, free for all to mock.

    Pro 29:11 KJV
A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.

Finally, this is one from David.

    14. A fool has said in his heart there is no God.

He is not really saying it with his mouth and he might even be a churchgoer, but his lifestyles and actions show that in his heart, he believes there is no God.

    Psa 14:1 AMP
THE [empty-headed] fool has said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable deeds; there is none that does good or right.

May God help us to be wise and to embrace wisdom in our generation and beyond!

I pray that your path will not cross with a foolish lover! You will not fall in love with foolishness!

My God will give unto you That Which Is Good!
