This is different!

Before we got married, we agreed that no one would live with us for the first three years of our marriage. This was to prevent external influence of any form.
Last week, my aged mother fell ill. I suggested we bring her home, so as to keep an eye on her while she is being treated. My wife said NO, reminding me of our agreement.
Isn't this different? A matter of life and death.
