Kenya's Eliud Kipchoge won the men's London Marathon as fellow compatriots, Wilson Kipsang and Dennis Kimetto came second and third respectively. It was a close call as Kipchoge finished five second ahead of Kipsang in a time two hours and 42 minutes. Kipsang won in 2012 and 2014.

"I'm happy for my friend to have won and for me as defending champion to run a good time and get second place, I'm really happy. It was a very tough race but a fantastic one”, Kipsang said after the race.

In the womens race, Ethiopia's Tigist Tufa was victorious in a time of two hours and 23 minutes with Kenyan, Mary Keitany coming second.

Tufa  said after the race, "I've always dreamed about winning the London Marathon and I can't say how happy I am that this has come true".
