"Spending time with God is the key to our strength and success in all areas of life. Be sure that you never try to work God into your schedule, but always work your schedule around Him.-Joyce Meyer

One day, at age 9, Joyce went to church with some of her cousins and after the service, she went to the pastor of the church to lead her to Christ which he did. This was when Joyce got born again.

Despite the fact that Joyce became born again, it did not stop her father from doing those things to her. Joyce Meyer was was sexually, mentally and physically abused by her father. This experience drove her deeper into faith in God. At age 18, Joyce Meyer left the house.

Joyce Meyer is a graduate of O'Fallon Technical High School in St. Louis. After her senior year in high school, she married a part-time car salesman. This marriage did not last. According to her, her first husband frequently cheated on her and persuaded her to steal payroll cheques from her employer. This money was used to go on vacation to California. Years later Joyce returned the money she stole from her employer.

After her divorce, she became a frequent visitor to local bars before she finally met her second husband. In 1967, January 7, David (Dave) Meyer and Joyce got married. He is her husband till date.

In 1976, something spectacular happened to Joyce, she said one morning, she was praying intensely when she heard God call her name.

Joyce was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, St. Louis for some time, a member of Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod too for sometime. Over time, she started leading Bible class at a local cafetria and became active in Life Christian Center, a charismatic church in Fenton. In few years, Joyce was made the church's associate pastor. This church became one of the leading charismatic churches in the area, largely because of her popularity as a Bible teacher. She went further to start airing a daily 15-minute radio broadcast on a St. Louis radio station.

In 1985, Joyce resigned as associate pastor and founded her own ministry, formerly called "Life in the Word." Her radio show progressed very fast that in a short while she was on six other stations from Chicago to Kansas City.

In 1993, in agreement with her husband's suggestion, they started a television ministry which started airing her program Enjoying Everyday Life on Superstation WGN-TV in Chicago and Black Entertainment Television (BET) Dave suggested that they start a television ministry. The show is still on till date.

In 2002, mainstream publisher Hachette Book Group paid Meyer over $10 million for the rights to her backlist catalog of independently released books.

In 2004, St. Louis Christian television station - KNLC operated by the Rev. Larry Rice of New Life Evangelistic Center, dropped Meyer's programming. According to Rice, he had to drop Joyce's program because of Joyce's "excessive lifestyle" and her teachings often went "beyond Scripture"

In 2005, Joyce Meyer was ranked 17th in Time magazine's "25 Most Influential Evangelicals in America".

After 30years, she and her mother were able to discuss what happened to her as a child especially when her mother caught her father on her (Joyce) and walked out. It was then, she discovered her mother had had a nervous breakdown for years because of what she saw. Her mother told her, she could not handle it and did not know how to talk about it because of what she had suffered from her husband (Joyce' Father).

As the years progressed, God worked and walked Joyce Meyer through her healing process where she was able to completely forgive her parents. It was tougher for her to forgive her father because of the years of torture but she was finally able to let go. It was then her father apologised for all he did for her. He wept profusely as he apologised and he talked about how he had been abused when he was growing up too and he did not know better. She led her father to Christ and after a few years, her father died.
