    Last Episode

We assembled according to our platoons. I was glad when I found out that Irene was in my platoon. Her number was 1992. So there I was, with a familiar face in the same platoon. There were more females than males in the platoon and it was led by a friendly military officer from Minna, Niger State in the Northern part of Nigeria.

After like what seemed like 5 minutes, the sound of the microphone feedback came on and we were addressed by the Camp Commandant.

He informed everybody of the welcome party on friday night popularly known and called Camp Fire night and urged everyone to be there. Sir Yerima concluded his address by warning Corps members to be well behaved and stay within the Camp, attempt to disobey the rule will attract severe punishment.

Help!” The soldiers ran to the scene as the corps members behind scattered.

    Episode 20

    LAGOS CAMP EXPERIENCE -WEEK 1

One of the corps members had fainted on the last line of the last platoon which was Platoon ten and the lady just in front of her had screamed out of fear. The soldiers took the girl to the Camp hospital as everybody went about their other businesses for the day.

Irene, Lewa and I went to where rooms were allocated to corps members and we were allocated to the same room but different mattresses. We left the office to our previous room where we left our belongings. After we dropped our bags in the new room and tidied it, Lewa left Irene and I in the room.

I gisted Irene about what had transpired at the camp, especially my experience with John Paul. She laughed a lot at me and told me it was expected. Irene visited Lagos frequently, she also had three siblings who had gone to serve ahead of her and had educated her about the NYSC lifestyle unlike me that was an only child with aunties and uncles who were just second “mummy & daddy” to me, so she wasn't surprised when I told her.

Phew! I'm so hungry, any where to eat?” Irene blurted out.

O yes, maami, they have very good food there.” I responded.

What time do they close? This 8pm, would they still be open” Irene asked.

Yes, they close by 9:30pm, we can still make it.” I replied.

Ok, lets go, I'm so famished, I could swallow a cow” She said. We laughed as we left the room.
