Help Pastor, I Am Having An Affair

Having an affair is never the way to go.

There is really no justifiable reason for indulging in such a practice that pitches you against your maker and has the capacity for generation consequences.

Many a people today are suffering for the choices of their parents.

Adultery is a sin, which consequences transcend the perpetrator.

It is an iniquity that spreads like cancer into its immediate environment sucking the closest people into bearing the consequences.

At the end of the day, it is not worth it.

Pro 6:26-29 (KJV)

For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life. [27] Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? [28] Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? [29] So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.

You can’t give fire a hug and remain unscathed.

Adultery is like fire that burns.

This morning, we want to consider something very important.

What do you do when you already found yourself in an affair?

Let’s take a look at some few things.

1. Ask for forgiveness from God

That is the beautiful thing about God.
Once you are genuinely repentant, God will always forgive.

He promises in His word that He will forgive!

1Jn 1:9 (AMP)

If we [ freely ] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just (true to His own nature and promises) and will forgive our sins [ dismiss our lawlessness ] and [ continuously ] cleanse us from all unrighteousness [ everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action ]

God forgives!

However, you must be repentant, that is, your heart must be made up not go back into that sin again.

After asking God for forgiveness, you can move to the next stage.

2. Ask your spouse for forgiveness

This is a deep and often painful process, not on the part of the offender, but on the part of the spouse.

After asking for forgiveness, it is a big relief to the person in question, but it is just the beginning of heartache, pain, mistrust, and distrust for the spouse.

This emotional healing process cannot be rushed.

After asking for forgiveness, don’t expect some magical forgetfulness of the event, the spouse would still often struggle with what had happened.

This requires a deep healing process that must take place and not be rushed or else the issue will arise again.

3. Seek help and support in overcoming this sin
You will always need help from others that God has placed around you.

Don’t be scared or afraid to seek help.

Whatever is hidden and covered hardly gets healed.

This does not mean you should to everybody or anybody, but there are trusted people around you that you can speak with who will be able to help you walk through that season of life and help you navigate through the recovery process.

I am going to stop here today and continue later.

May God grant more understanding!

God bless you!
I receive help from God

Lord, grant me strength within

Eph 3:16 (KJV)
That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
