What has been happening when I asked and received nothing?

God can do what he wants to do in our lives. I also want you to know it is not just about the fact that God can do, is also true that God will do it.
We saw that all we need to do is to ask according to the scripture here:
Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. (John 16:24 KJV)
Oh, Pastor, you don’t really understand. I have been asking but nothing has happened. I have been fasting and praying for many months, but nothing has happened. I just completed seventy days fasting and prayers. And before that, I had one hundred days fasting and prayer! Pastor, I have been asking, and nothing has happened.
Well, if you have ASKED and nothing has happened, then something is wrong somewhere.
What could be wrong? The scripture above simply said you should ask, AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE, that your joy may be full.
What could be wrong? That is what I want to show you this morning.
1. Ask according to His will
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: (1 John 5:14 KJV)
The scripture cannot be broken. If we ask according to His will He heareth us! God hears our prayers. Over seven billion humans on earth and still counting and yet God hears us all! Let me give you an example, you fell in love with a man who is already married. You really want to marry that man, but he is married to another person. You begin to pray that God should work it out for you so that the man will eventually marry you! Will God answer that? No. Why Because it is not according to His will. Are you asking? Yes. Will you receive anything? No. It is important you ask according to His will.
2. Stay in Obedience
And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. (1 John 3:22 KJV)
When you don’t keep His words and do those things that are not pleasing in His sight, we may not receive from Him.
Message translation simplifies that verse:
We're able to stretch our hands out and receive what we asked for because we're doing what he said, doing what pleases him. (1 John 3:22 Message)
Living a life of sin does not please God, and that make receiving from Him difficult.
3. Don't ask amiss
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. (James 4:3 KJV)
Now that cannot be clearer. When you ask amiss, you will not receive. What does it mean to ask amiss? When you intend to consume what you asking for upon your lust and not unto God’s glory.
4. Ask in Faith
But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. (James 1:6 KJV)
Do not ask in unbelief or you will receive nothing. You have to ask in faith! Put your trust in God that He is able to do what you are asking Him to do. Praise Him after you have asked and believe it is done.
5. Ask in the name of Jesus
And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. (John 16:23 KJV)
Ask in the name of Jesus, not for the sake of Jesus. Study the revelation behind His name, such that when you mention that name, something big happens in your life!
6. Abide in Him and study His word regularly
If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. (John 15:7 KJV)
Finally, abide in Him. Seek His presence. Don’t run after the presents without placing values on His presence!
Let His words abide you. Read and study that word regularly and you will have what you ask for.
I pray for you this morning, that God will honour your desires. Expect to receive that which you are asking from God! It is your day; it is you moment, get ready!

My prayers are answered

Lord, hear my prayers

And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. (John 16:23 KJV)

Pray for one hour today
