    CHRONICLES OF GREATNESS

    FROM GOD'S GENERALS

Hello KHCites! Happy New Year from Pearl's Cafe! We would like to seize this opportunity to say thank you for reading throughout last year and even looking out for the moderator – Adebola when there was a break, God bless you real good and reward your labour of love!

Chronicles of Greatness (Biographies of People that have made it!) continues this year with God's Generals. For those of you that have not read the three sets of books, this is an opportunity for you to have an idea of what you may be missing because Chronicles will only summarise the outstanding history of these great men and women. This month we are looking at the life of John Alexander Dowie, the healing Apostle. You have a lot to learn and be blessed. Happy Reading! Happy Learning!

John Alexander Dowie (The Healing Apostle!)

Born May 25, 1847 in Edinburgh, Scotland to Mr & Mrs John Murray Dowie.

He was named John according to his purpose.

John means “by the grace of God” “a helper of men”

Though brilliant, school attendance was irregular due to frequent illness.

He was always with his parents in prayer meetings and Bible Studies.

At age 6, he read the Bible through from cover to cover. He campaigned against alcohol abuse and signed a petition never to partake of it.

On one of the preaching journeys with his father, he met Henry Wright.

After listening to Henry Wright, he gave his heart to Jesus Christ.

At age 7, Dowie received his call to ministry, but he didn't yet know how to answer.

At age 13, John and his parent left Scotland for a six-month journey to Australia where he worked for his uncle in the shoe business.

He later left for different places per time until he soon became the assistant to a firm's partner in a business that grossed more than $2million a year.

As a sickly child, he suffered from Chronic dyspepsia (a severe indigestion problem that plagued him in his teen years.)

After reading and knowing God's will as regards healing, he petitioned God and he received his healing.

At 21, he answered the call of God upon his life. He took the money he saved from his occupation and studied under a private tutor to prepare for ministry.

15months later, he left Australia to enrol in Edinburgh University to study theology & political science in the Free Church School.

He disagreed a lot with the professors and their doctrines and challenged their lethargic interpretations.

There were several occurrences in his life that move him to different places to minister.

In 1875, he moved again and this move would take him into the revelation that would launch his ministry into worldwide acclaim.

    ...to be continued.
