BENJAMIN SOLOMON CARSON (1951-) Part. 1
He is popularly known and called Ben Carson. He was born September 18, 1951 in Detroit to Robert Solomon and Sonya Carson as a second child. Ben Carson's story cannot be successfully told without mentioning his mother – Sonya Carson.
Ben's mother was raised in a very large family in Tennesse. She dropped out of school when she was in the third grade and married a Baptist Minister Robert Carson at the age of 13 with the belief that Robert would change her life. The marriage was sweet the first few years but after that, Robert Carson became domineering and erratic. Sonya could only bear this for a short while after which she divorced him. Ben was 8years while his brother was 10years when their parents divorced.
Ben and his brother Curtis were single-handedly raised by their mother who taught them to read and be focussed to become great people in life. The family was very poor, so most times Sonya had to take multiple jobs mostly as a domestic servant to sustain the house. Sometimes the boys did not see her for days because she got back home 11pm and left for work 5am the next day. She managed the home the best way she could. She was brutally economical with finances, patched the boys clothes if the tore, went to the local farmers with the boys to offer to pick corn or other vegetables in exchange for a portion of the yield. Sonya taught her boys all things are possible.
Growing up was tough for Ben and Curtis especially in school. In class, Ben was known to be a dullard and none of his classmates thought anything good would come out of him. The only person that believed in him was his mother and she gave her all to bring out the best in her sons. Ben became violent as a result of uncontrollable temper developed from experience with his classmates who made him an object of ridicule because of academic predicament. He attacked at any slightest provocation.
